WATCH CARE GUIDES

Simple habits that protect your timepiece—its finish, seals, accuracy, and longevity.

ESSENTIALS

Daily & Weekly Care

Great watch care is mostly routine: remove sweat, dust, and fingerprints before they build up. A soft cloth is usually enough for regular cleaning, and water-resistant watches can be wiped with a lightly damp cloth (without aggressive cleaners).

After each wear

  • Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Remove sweat and moisture around the caseback and clasp.
  • Keep perfume, solvents, and sprays away from the watch.

Weekly check

  • Confirm the crown is fully pushed in (or screwed down if applicable).
  • Inspect the crystal for chips and the bracelet/strap for wear.
  • If the watch is water-resistant, lightly wipe away grime with a damp cloth.

What to avoid

  • Harsh cleaning agents and abrasive cloths.
  • Hot water/steam and sudden temperature changes.
  • Wearing leather straps in water.

PROTECTION

Water Resistance Basics

Water resistance is a system of seals and gaskets—not a lifetime guarantee.

Before water contact

  • Make sure the crown is fully closed (and screwed down if designed that way).
  • Never press pushers underwater unless the watch is explicitly rated for it.
  • If you’re unsure about seal condition, keep the watch dry.

After salt or pool time

  • Rinse the exterior with fresh water (only if the watch is water-resistant).
  • Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth—especially around the bracelet links and clasp.
  • If the crystal ever fogs from inside, get it checked immediately.

MAINTENANCE

Cleaning Case & Straps

Metal bracelet

  • Use a soft cloth regularly to remove oils and fingerprints.
  • For deeper cleaning (water-resistant watches), use a soft brush with mild soapy water, then rinse and dry fully.
  • Focus on gaps between links where dirt accumulates.

Leather strap

  • Keep it dry and wipe with a soft cloth after wear.
  • For a gentle clean, use a lightly damp microfiber cloth—never soak the strap.
  • Avoid alcohol-based products and heavy chemicals that can dry and crack leather.

Case & crystal

  • Use a soft, dry cloth for most situations.
  • If water-resistant, wipe with a damp cloth—skip strong cleaning agents.
  • If the watch ever fogs inside the crystal, treat it as urgent.

LONGEVITY

Storage & Servicing

Storage tips

  • Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature swings.
  • Keep the watch separated from jewelry to avoid scratches.
  • Use the original box or a soft watch roll for travel.

Servicing guidance

  • Many brands suggest servicing mechanical watches about every 4–5 years (usage can change this).
  • If accuracy drops suddenly, the crown feels unusual, or moisture appears inside—book a check immediately.
  • Quartz watches mainly need battery replacement and seal checks over time.

Note: Always follow the specific care and water-resistance guidance provided for your exact model, especially for vintage watches.
